Impact of Technology On Food Security, Food Wastage & Food Producers

Daily in our homes, we buy organic vegetables and fruits from stores and then dispose that waste into our dustbin. From dustbin, the waste gets transported by sanitation workers to the regional dumping zone and then finally it is sent to the state border resulting in a big garbage mountain.

Instead of dumping organic waste, we should try to create compost out of it by following processes suggested by innovative teams like ‘Daily Dump’ and using solutions like mitti ka ‘Khamba’ discovered by them or similar kind of home-made solution. I like the way ‘Daily dump’ team has educated us in organic waste management to produce healthy plants. Feel free to watch this video to learn more about compost creation by using ‘Khambaa’ innovation

Processed food wastage is also common in India. In the country where massive percentage of people sleep hungry with their kids, we need to understand and limit ourselves to avoid wastage of food. In addition, we need to equip our farmers with communication tools to enable them to understand climate changes in their region and use latest agricultural technologies in an agile way to confront challenges of hunger and poverty. What’s the best way for them to collaborate with agriculture experts and get new ways of farming communicated to them. What’s the best way for experts to enhance their knowledge as per changing environmental conditions. What’s the best way for environment and agriculture activists, students and development practitioners to train themselves on new technologies and inspire themselves from stories of other people.

I found AGRILINKS (www.agrilinks.org) as one of such known platforms for knowledge management, learning and collaboration which is also an answer to above asked questions. It’s an online hub where we can invite food security and agricuture professionals to collaborate and contribute their knowledge and skills with other practitioners. After all, it’s our duty as technocrats to reduce food wastage, handle food mis-management and enable food producers to feed their child plateful.

To accomplish these goals, we at The QED Group manage and support these knowledge management platforms and i am proud for the same.
