Now It’s Kerala, After Kedarnath & Nepal. Which One is Next ?

It was 2013, and we have witnessed country’s biggest natural disaster when Kedarnath, in North Indian state of Uttarakhand, experienced devastating floods and landslides. More than 100,000 pilgrims and tourists were trapped in valley and many have lost their lives. Families were ruined. People lost their homes.

Then came the April 2015 Nepal earthquake. More than 9,000 people died on this deadliest day in the history we witnessed. Hundreds of thousands of people in Nepal lost their homes.

Now it’s turn of Kerala & Himachal Pradesh, most beautiful states of India, who knew this massive flood will sweep away lives of so many Indian people. Huge rains in these regions have caused slopes in mountains to weaken, and washing way homes, life and property dug in earth.

What could be done to prevent such natural phenomena ? Is there a technology available to understand which areas are prone to landslides & floods ? Is government taking appropriate measured steps to protect life and property. Are we taking steps to protect these regions from illegal construction and tree cutting activities. Did government circulated and incorporated land-use policies and other regulations to protect people and reduce natural disaster risk.

Are local people enough educated to understand past history of these phenomena. New constructions and tree cutting should be emplaced to prevent landslide hazards. Material damage and human loses caused should be prevented by educating people by local authorities.
