Sir Edwin Lutyens led a group of architects in laying out the central administrative area of the city, New Delhi, with the charge of retaining one-third of the area as green space. At the heart of the city was the impressive Rashtrapati Bhawan, which formerly was Viceroy’s House, located on the top of Raisina Hill. The Rajpath connects India Gate to Rashtrapati Bhawan, while Janpath, which crosses it at a right angle, connects South End Road (renamed as Rajesh Pilot Marg) with Connaught Place. Currently, Pranab Mukherjee is the President of India, and stays in the official house of Rashtrapati Bhawan.

Edwin Lutyens, the architect of Delhi, designed 4 bungalows in the Rashtrapati Bhavan Estate, (Viceroy House Estate); now, these bungalows lie on the Mother Teresa Crescent (then Willingdon Crescent).

Lutyens, apart from designing the Viceroy’s House, designed large government building and was involved with town planning.

Arvind Kejriwal, the 7th chief minister of Delhi is mechanical engineer from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. He left his job in Tata Steel in 1992 to prepare for civil services examination and qualified it and joined Indian Revenue Services, Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, Govt of India in 1995.

He won Ramon Magsaysay Award for Emergent Leadership in 2006. He is the writer of book “Swaraj” which was published in 2012. The Parivartan organisation, founded by Kejriwal exposed a fake ration card scam in 2008.

As a civil society representative member of the committee constituted by the Government of India, Kejriwal drafted a Jan Lokpal bill, following a campaign with Anna Hazare. Kejriwal established party named “Aam Aadmi Party” in November 2012. His party won 28 seats in December 2013 Delhi legislative assembly elections and he became the second youngest chief minister after Chaudhary Brahm Prakash.

आज का दिन जशन का दिन है. आज अन्ना का दिन है. आज हर उस वीर और वीरांगना का दिन है जिन्होंने देश की सेवा करते हुए अपने जीवन को समर्पित कर दिया. आज दिन है झाँसी की रानी को याद करने का जिसने बचपन में ही पूरी दुनिया से ये कह डाला था “मेरी झांसी नहीं दूँगी”. जिसने छोटी सी उम्र में अपना सर कटा कर भी देश की रक्षा की थी. आज दिन है नमन का हर उस वीर को जो देश की रक्षा में जुटा है. आज दिन है वापस बुलाने का हर उस हिन्दुस्तानी को, जो हमसे रूठ कर दुनिया के किसी कोने में चला गया है. आज दिन है इन्सानिअत का, आज दिन है दोस्तों को गले लगाने का. आज दिन है गरीब को उठाने का, कमजोर को जगाने का. आज दिन है किसान का, आज दिन है एकजुट होकर काम करने का. आज दिन है सत्य का, आज दिन है धर्म का. आज दिन है सरकार की जीत का, आज दिन है हर पार्टी की जीत का. आज दिन है भारत की जीत का, आज दिन है हमारी जीत का.
